Request or send
A veterinary clinic starts a secure record exchange — either requesting records from another practice, or sending records it already holds to the practice that needs them.

Securely transfer
Records, and any client consent the exchange requires, move through protected, purpose-specific workflows. Access is granted deliberately for one exchange, rather than by sharing a file broadly.

Review
The receiving team opens the records that were sent and can use Chart Relay's clinical summary and its references back to the source pages to review them efficiently. The original documents stay available throughout.

No account needed to participate
A practice that has never used Chart Relay can still take part in supported exchange workflows. The clinic on the other end is not asked to sign up before records can move.

Every source document remains available to the receiving team. Nothing in Chart Relay replaces or stands in for the record a practice actually sent.

Clinical summaries exist to make review faster and more thorough. The veterinarian reading the record remains the authority on what it means.
Security
Access is granted deliberately, and it expires
Patient records are sensitive, and a record exchange platform earns trust by how narrowly it grants access — not by how much it promises.

Private, encrypted storage
Records are held in private storage with encryption at rest. There is no public access path to a stored document.

Purpose-specific, expiring links
A link Chart Relay sends is scoped to one exchange and one purpose, and it stops working when that purpose is finished or the link expires.

Recipient verification for delivered records
For records delivered to an external clinic, holding the link is not enough to open them. The recipient must request and enter a verification code sent to the original destination address before record access is unlocked.

Access controls and audit history
Access follows the clinic and the role a person holds within it, and meaningful actions are recorded so a practice can see what happened to a record and when.
Intelligent review
A faster way in, not a second opinion
Transferred records arrive as they were kept: long, inconsistent, and often scanned. Chart Relay reads what was sent and produces a structured clinical summary of it, so a veterinary team can see the shape of a patient's history before reading every page.
Every summarized point carries a reference back to the document and page it came from, so a clinician can go straight to the source material and read it in context. The original records remain the authoritative version of the patient's history.
Chart Relay does not diagnose, does not make clinical decisions, and does not replace professional veterinary judgment. It organizes and summarizes what a practice already sent, and points back to it.
